Key Card Location

Key Card Location

★☆☆Easy2 min

The simplest "impossible" trick in card magic — you'll be doing this within a minute of reading it.

What You'll NeedA single deck of cards.
Time2 min
DifficultyEasy

How To Do It

  1. Before you start, casually glance at the bottom card of the deck and remember it. This is your secret "key card." Say it's the 6 of Clubs.
  2. Spread the deck face-down on the table (or fan it in your hands) and ask someone to freely pull out any card, look at it, and remember it — without showing you.
  3. Square the rest of the deck back into a neat pile, still face-down. Your key card is still sitting at the very bottom.
  4. Ask them to place their card face-down on top of the whole deck.
  5. Now cut the deck yourself: lift roughly half the cards off the top and place that packet underneath the rest. Just one cut — no more.
  6. Spread the deck face-up and look for your key card (the 6 of Clubs, in our example). The card sitting immediately next to it is theirs.

Why It Works

The single cut always joins the very bottom of the deck to the very top — so your key card ends up sitting right next to their card, wherever that seam lands in the deck.

The 21 Card Trick

The 21 Card Trick

★★☆Medium5 min

A genuine classic — it looks impossible, takes no skill at all, and works every single time.

What You'll NeedA single deck of cards (or just 21 of them).
Time5 min
DifficultyMedium

How To Do It

  1. Count out 21 cards from the deck. Ask someone to silently think of one of the 21 and remember it — you don't need to know which.
  2. Deal the 21 cards face-up into 3 columns of 7, dealing left to right across the columns one at a time (card 1 into column 1, card 2 into column 2, card 3 into column 3, card 4 back into column 1, and so on).
  3. Ask which column their card is in. Pick up all three columns, but place the column they named in the middle of the other two.
  4. Deal the same 21 cards into 3 columns of 7 again, the same way. Ask again which column has their card, and again gather the columns with their column sandwiched in the middle.
  5. Do this a third time — deal, ask, gather with their column in the middle.
  6. Their card is now sitting in exactly the 11th position from the top. Count down to the 11th card and reveal it.

Why It Works

Sandwiching their column in the middle three times always narrows their card down to the exact centre of the 21 — no watching, no counting on your part, just repetition.

Do As I Do

Do As I Do

★★☆Medium5 min

A two-deck mind-reading effect that looks like real telepathy — and needs zero memory work from you.

What You'll NeedTwo full decks of cards.
Time5 min
DifficultyMedium

How To Do It

  1. Grab two full decks. Give one to your friend, keep one yourself.
  2. Say "do everything I do" — you both shuffle your own deck.
  3. Swap decks with each other.
  4. Both cut the deck you're now holding, as many times as you like.
  5. Both look at the top card of the deck you're now holding, and remember it. Put it back on top.
  6. Swap decks back, so you each have your original deck again.
  7. Announce out loud the card you remembered — they'll turn over the top card of their deck, and it'll match. Then look at the top card of the deck now in your own hands: it's the exact card they memorized. Turn it over to reveal it.

Why It Works

When you swap decks back, each deck still has the card that was peeked at sitting right on top — including the one you never actually looked at, which is why it feels like real mind-reading even though you're just reading it off the top of the deck.
